This is Weekend Update from Room #519. I actually returned a little prematurely last night. At the rish of making fun of my husband twice in 3 updates, here I go. He neglected to check his flight time or connection rules prior to coming to Cincinnati. He had booked a round trip from Akron to Las Vegas for business. The connection was in Cincinnati so he thought he could hop on there--I guess with new security, you can no longer do that. So, he had to drive back to Akron last night to fly here to Cincinnati (for the connection) this morning. He is now in Vegas and probably having a martini, shaken, not stirred, on behalf of all of us. Gina went home with Grandma Bonnie today. Grandma is going to live with Gina until Jeff returns. Before that, we were able to have a little fun yesterday. Gina and I went to the Newport Levee and did a little shopping. She played at Gameworks and then, we made a scarecrow. The Flower Society in the area had a free scarecrow making spot for all who wanted to join in. Apparently, they hold a record for the most scarecrows at a Fall Festival. So, Gina's scarecrow will be on display at Coney Island the first weekend in October. I hope we are all on the "outside" by then. Joey continues to rock and roll around this room. Today, the questions began as to when we can leave this place. He feels so good and cannot understand why we are still stuck in this room. Frankly, neither can I. He seems to be stuck at an ANC of 280. He needs to at least be over 500 to consider a discharge. He has been eating around 1300 to 1500 calories and drinking up to 800 mls a day. We are doing everything we can....we just still need the numbers. So, we wait. The doctors are not concerned. They say that the really scary stuff is out of the way....it is just time for the numbers. I have yet to see the "skyrocket" they promised. Hey, maybe we are making cells for keeps!!! Yesterday, one of the nurses and Grandma cooked up a "real martini". Apparently, they found a clear glass and filled it with cranberry juice as Joey had never had that before. According to Grandma, he sat in his bed with a certain air of sophistication that only a secret agent could have and drank the whole glass. What a riot. I wished I had seen it. I'll post after my morning paper---that is what I call the blood count sheet. Til then, have a good one.
