Joey is doing pretty well today. He wants to eat, but cannot taste anything. He asked me, "Don't they have any taste medicine in this place so I can taste again?" His mouth is healing according to the doctor. It also hurts him to swallow. Time and continued mouth care should do the trick. I am just glad he wants to try to eat. We still don't have any real counts today to show engraftment. We did get back our 100 white cells of the other day. We are Day plus 7. I won't start to worry until Day plus 14. I do see him as more comfortable today. His mouth is not as swollen and he seems to be turning some corner. He will get platelets today and an IV immune therapy to boost his immune system. I know you all hang on these updates and don't often have time to read everyone else's, so I also want to mention the State Farm Blood Drive link on the site. Please donate blood and bring a friend. The info is on the home page of this site. Joey (and millions of other children like him)requires at least one transfusion per week to keep him going. In the past week, he has received 2 blood transfusions and 2 platelet transfusions. Without donors, we wouldn't have our Joey. Be a Superhero and donate, OK? Thanks to my good friend Beth for organizing this event. Email her for a time--I'm sure she'll set you up. Til next time, we are waiting. Hey Vita--who is the patron Saint of patience? I need to start the novena. Love to all.
