We are having a better day. They seem to have Joey's pain under control with the morphine being increased a bit. He actually slept last night--YEAH! This means I had a little as well. I think Joey was confusing his GI pain with the urgency to go so he kept trying every 20 minutes the previous evening. This led to a lot of straining and painful misery. Last night, he only got up a few times and produced much more each time. In all, he slept from 6 pm to 9 am. They increased the morphine this morning as well and he has been playing today. He even cooperated with PT and OT today once again feeling like a big guy doing his "football exercises". He is still wearing his Ben/Nick football pin. I don't imagine he'll take it off. We also received a few cards today. Joey LOVES getting mail. I hesitate in saying that as I know all of you and I fear a flooding of the US Postal Service, but it really does brighten his day. We hung the pictures from Nina, Nathan, and Cassidy in the room. You can send to the hospital or the hotel. Either way, he will get it. His counts are still at zero--we no longer have the 100 white cells from yesterday, but all in all, he is doing as well as he should. The doctor was willing to say that his mouth is looking like it is getting better today. He drank some yogurt. This is huge because it is my personal goal to get him out of here without a tube down his nose for feeding. We'll keep on it. Thanks to all who continue to cheer us on. We love you all.
