Here's the latest from Hotel Children's. We did not sleep last night. Joey is still having a considerable amount of diarrhea and vomiting. The mucous is here and thick. Last night, around 3 am, we were up recovering from some fluid explosion, and Joey looked so deep in thought. Finally, he looked at me and said, "Mom, you know what? Uncle Frank has the HUGEST toe jam. It's so big (with arms outstretched) like a GIANT!" I have no idea why that came to him just then, but, Uncle Frank, rest assured that it gave him a needed distraction. And, he has told everyone that today. So, in case anyone missed this bit of info, it is now on the world wide web. Kenny Lolla stopped by today on route back from a soccer match in Louisville. Joey was so glad for a visitor. He has told everyone about the visit and shown them the soccer ball that Kenny brought by. Tonight, he told his cousins that he got a soccer ball from Tyler's dad and it has all the soccer team's names and numbers! Thanks Kenny. It meant the world today. Just a friendly, familiar face did me some good. Healthwise, we are in a waiting game. They are watching him closely. I am very comfortable with his care. I need to be, because last night, he had a fever of 103. The doctors tell me they expect fevers at this point. They say it is the remaining white cells (all 10 of them) fighting off what is wrong in his body. They have put him on IV antibiotics and are testing him for any infections. So far, none have been identified. We may know more tomorrow on that as the cultures usually show something within 48 hours. They did an x-ray of the abdomen which was normal. They did a chest x-ray but it is not yet back. He is on morphine and is resting well right now. I am going to try to take advantage of this---I am just a little tired-but, I can't complain watching my champ. Lori and Jeff will come in this weekend with Gina. I am anxious to see her. I am also grateful that Lori will be able to drive them home in case Jeff gets as much sleep as I have been getting. Love to all. We are hanging tough with your constant encouragement.
