4:50 PM Monday 6/28/04 Jeff Here. Joey's surgery went fine today. The surgeon was able to remove tumor around Joe's Left Kidney, and also save his kidney! There was a slight risk of losing his kidney due to the location of the tumor and the blood vessel supply to the kidney. We were very happy Dr. Crow was able to save his kidney. The surgeon did spend some time looking at the Right kidney area because radiologic tests did reveal a tumor area on the right adrenal gland. Both adrenal glands were removed. This is a common occurrence and many people live without these glands that sit on the top of the kidneys. He will see an endocrinologist regularly for medications and monitoring. Not a major issue, but close follow up will help keep things working fine. The good thing is that the solid cancer tumor has been removed and we move forward on Joe's protocol. Joey had an epideral to contol his pain and actually has not had additional pain medication up to this point. He has additional pain medication to help with pain and if he gets aggitated. He is wathing sponge bob and is resting with minimal discomfort. HE IS SUCH A TROOPER! He awakened from anesthesia fine and was NOT upset and aggitated like the previous (2) surgical procedures. He will continue to rest and recover for the next 3-4 days before going home for the big July 4th weekend. We don't anticpate any complications and Laura and I will be at his side until he is feeling like "his old self". Round (6) chemo will be the week after the July 4th weekwnd. Thanks again for your continued thooughts and prayers and everything so far is going well! Stay tuned for daily updates on the progress of OUR NUMBER ONE SUPER HERO!!!!!!
