Well, the days are getting shorter, and the pressure is on. I have done NOTHING toward getting ready for Christmas. I need to quit living in the moment for a bit, and plan ahead temporarily. It is difficult, though, because we are having too much fun. Our Thanksgiving was wonderful. We spent it with family. We ate, played board games, and watched The Polar Express. We certainly "Believe" in the magic of this time of year. It is my favorite time of year, if for no other reason than the ability to say, "Santa is watching!" Yet, we know that the true magic comes from God. And, if we forget, Joey reminds us. About a week ago, Joey and I were headed to swimming lessons, and from the back seat, I heard, "Mommy, does God have spray paint?" I replied, "Well, I don't know, Joey, why are you asking me that?" Joey said, "Because, look at all the beautiful colors He made on the Earth!" "I can see them, Joey, but I don't think he used spray paint. I think God can just do that."
Joey answered in awe, "Wow! You mean God does all of this with his finger? God must have SO much fun up there using his powers all day!" He certainly had fun creating my special son. I know that for sure. And, if he does have spray paint, lately, it is a BIG can of white. We had quite a snow storm on Wednesday, and, on Friday, we took to the hill at Grandpa and Grandma Crawford's house for sledding. Joey, Gina and their three cousins, Ben, Nick and Lizzie had a ball.
At one point, they were all piled on top of each other, giggling and wrestling. It was an image I won't soon forget. Nor, will I forget seeing Joey sail down the hill without fear. It is how he approaches each day...with images of fearless adventure, of finger-painting with God, of gifts in EACH day. The magic of Christmas lives in my son, every day. And, with him by my side, I believe.
