We had a follow-up appointment yesterday at Akron Children's. Dr. Patton asked me, "Is this our skinny boy?" She couldn't believe how full Joey's cheeks were. She thought he looked wonderful, and so do I! While we were there, we visited a few friends on the nursing floor. They were all admiring Joey's hair. I think it must be strange for these nurses who are so accustomed to seeing bald heads. Joey's counts look really good. His ANC is 2900. This is the highest it has been. So, we get to remain normal for today. Joey is playing video games and I am doing my mommy thing. I took on another project at home. I gathered up all my little baggies and photo envelopes of loose pictures from the past year. So far, I have filled 800 slots in albums and still have some to go. It was quite an eye opener. I had shots from our Disney trip in the Fall of 2003 and forward. The change in Joey from that time to now was amazing to me. When you are in it, you don't realize how sick your child really looks. I guess that frame of mind got us through....it's only temporary. I know a lot of parents in this boat read this site. I want them all to know there is hope and health on the other side of treatment. Seeing Joey today, I feel like he will be well forever. He is dancing around the house, playing video games, and just getting into his usual trouble. I plan to take him and Gina to see Robots this afternoon. It is a pre-bribe for tomorrow night when Jeff and I are actually going out with friends! Lovin' the normal life, but appreciating every minute as we go....Love to all of you.
